I make paintings depicting the body that are about intimacy and vulnerability. Utilizing increased scale and tightly cropped compositions, my paintings create little distance between the viewer and the subject. The work beckons a closeness.
The work examines the body highlighting its materiality and drawing connections between paint and flesh. The evidence of the brush paired with the imagery evoke physical touching. The viewer can imagine the sensation of how the body may feel and be aware of their own body’s sensation. The paintings offer a glimpse into an intimate moment, a private space where the body is exposed, comfortable in all its strangeness, imperfections, and beauty.
